Beggar Mafia in India

Beggar Mafia in India

Beggars in India

Organized begging is a form of human trafficking that is highly practiced in India. Around 60,000 children go missing in India each year, however, there are probably way more that are not accounted for. The children are forced to work for beggar mafia's, which are organized criminal groups. The mafia usually only takes children that are ten years of age or younger. It is recommended that tourists, as well as natives, do not give the beggars any type of money. By giving them money, the mafia keeps making more and more money, which means they will be kidnapping more kids.

"Arms-for-Alms" Scandal
The CNN-IBN news channel underwent an investigation and caught three doctors on video agreeing to amputate limbs of child beggars for as low as $200 or 10,000 rupees. However, the price usually ranges between $200-$800 or 10,000 to 40,000 rupees. The doctors would typically sew the muscles shut which causes gangrene then they would amputate the chosen limb two to three days later. The reason they choose to amputate the children's legs is because disabled children brought in more money since people felt bad for them.

The beggars mafia kidnaps infants and young children and force them to work as beggars on the street. The kidnappers come off as kind people who are just trying to help, however, they end up drugging the children and forcing them to be beggars. The mafia kidnaps newborns from the hospitals, infants, homeless children, and any child that may seem vulnerable. The mafia will also rent a baby, drug him or her, and send them out on the street with the women in order to cause sympathy. The children are brutally beaten, starved, burned, and some even have limbs amputated or eyes pulled out. The worse the children look, the more money they bring into the mafia. The mafia also keeps the children addicted to opium or other drugs in order to control them. The children are not allowed to keep the money they earn, all of it goes to the mafia leader. If they do not make the target amount, the child is brutally beaten and abused. The mafia teaches these children how to effectively beg for money. They teach them where to beg, who to beg, and how to get sympathy from other people. These children eventually become addicted to the street life considering that is all they know. A lot of these children will stay in the streets even when offered help to get out of it. There are no limits when it comes to the beggar mafia in India.

How to Deal With Beggars
These children could literally break somebody's heart just by the way they look, however, it is important that you do not give them money. Instead, you could offer them food or drink, even though they usually turn it down. How should I deal with beggars in India? It may seem kind of cruel, however, the best thing to do is ignore the beggars, even if they are children. If you feel like you have to give them money, be sure to give them a very small amount (But I personally feel that you should not give them money because it is the only way to eradicate begging from our society). It is also important that you do not give money to women beggars with newborn babies. These babies are rented and drugged in order to make them drowsy. Please note that begging is not allowed in India; begging is illegal (begging act 1959) by law in India. Begging is active in India due to the religious nature of India and by foreigners or travelers who feel bad for beggars (effect of Slumdog millionaire). Ignore the beggars as much as possible, even though it is very difficult.

  1. We have them here on the streets of Boston, too. It is very sad, but I never give them anything because so much help is available if they would just take it.

  5. Wow there's no way I could NOT help a child beggar. I've never seen one, but believe me that would have me torn apart.

  6. Oh my goodness. My heart weeps at such atrocities. I cannot imagine that anyone could treat an innocent child this way. I pray for these kids that their voices will be heard and that they will be rescued from slavery

  7. This is so sad. I once saw a documentary and it broke my heart. The kids are so cute and innocent. Once they age out, they are literally left to die.

  9. I usually offer food to beggars. This way, I will be sure that they will not use the money I give them to buy drugs or alcohol.

  10. That is absolutely heartbreaking. It would be very hard to ignore the beggars when they're children.

  11. This is so sad! It's hard to say no to a child who is begging so I can only imagine how much they make. Something needs to be done and quickly to help these poor children.

  12. So sad that children are involved. I donated $50 to a person in Italy who had a small child on her lap under a blanket. Hubby told me it was a scam. Sure enough, right around the corner and for the rest of our trip we saw more of the same. :(

  13. I always try to give a little something if i see someone struggling. If i don't want to give money i will go and buy a sandwich and a drink for them.

  15. This is so horrible. I have heard such news from one of my friend who lives in India. But the statistics & the facts you have mentioned are really scary. When I see Children begging I always offer them food, though many a times I feel I need more power to do so much to them!

  16. Writing here and expressing your sorrows for these kids who have been kidnapped, otherwise they belonged to some loving families who would have educated them and made them great human beings. What maximum we can do than to offer food to these kids. I suggest reverse kidnapping (kidnap the beggar kids and give them homage) if the government supports. But unfortunately the support of the government is unlikely because people sitting up there also get there share. I curse them all to go to hell for such a heinous crime.

  17. This is so sad - I always try to offer something tangible like food or drink rather than cash.

  18. This is sad and disgusting that people exist that do such horrible things to children for money! I never was aware of this happening. Breaks my heart.

  19. Yikes, begging can be found all over the world-but I don't think that it is as bad here as you are describing it is in India. Once I saw a Mom and young child begging--I took them to a food place and bought that child food--and yes she was hungry!!

  22. This is horrible and so very sad. We have beggars here, but not children beggars. Although I've always been the person to offer food or drink but like you said most don't want that.

  23. What a way to use children, so so sad. And In most western countries you find people who genuinely would receive help if they sought it then right way. In less developed countries it has become a way of earning a living..Why!

  25. This made me blood boil! How can they do such a horrible thing to children? Amputate a limb to make them look desperate for alms? Unbelievable. I hope the government would do something to stop this and put the perpetrators of this crime behind bars for the rest of their lives.

  33. Unfortunately, this isn't just happening in India. Although there's no denying that it is definitely a huge issue, it's heartbreaking that these kids are being used for money and that they are not receiving proper care.

  34. It's literally the same in the Philippines and what I don't like is the fact that most of the givers' mindsets are based on fear of Karma rather than the thought of caring by itself. Nevertheless, this post is a good lesson for everyone.

  35. How sad that this thing is happening around the world. Poor children, they should be in school and not begging in the streets.

  38. I had no idea about the beggar mafia. It saddens me to hear that these children are helpless. In the area I live in, we don't see very many homeless people at all. I think I have seen one or two in the 10+ years I have lived here.

  44. This is horrible! It's beyond horrible. How people could be so cruel to children is beyond me. The worse conditions in the world are usually driven by the pursuit of money. So sad.

  45. Why are you writing ignore them as much as possible? It isn't solution neither giving them food is solution. You don't have to ignore them , you can talk to them and ask if they are working for some mafia they won't tell you easily but you can convince them and if they are trapped by mafia please contact your local police or atlest some NGO

    1. Deep, it is not easy to convince them. They fear a lot!! They already lost their hands and other body parts and they will never take risks of their lives. I completely understand what you are trying to say but things are not much easy; there are more than 60k beggars in Delhi alone. Police is now fingerprinting as well as photographing these beggars to confirm their identity and to save kids from mafia. I hope Delhi police will crack down beggar mafia soon.

Why is Society important?

Why is Society so important? Why do we care a lot about society? Why we do all the things considering society in mind? What about society irritates us? Why we are judged for every single step we take? Why it is so important? These questions often come in our mind when we are judged by the society. We begin to curse society due to its negative impacts in our lives. Of course, we are the ones who create society and we are crucial members of it as well. Global societies are generally incorporated with different cultures and religions, and it is a fact that a community would look awful with the same type of people; we are not robots. The basic nature of the term "society" is democratic , then why we force cultural expectations in it? I am including relatives also in society, because apart from our neighbors, colleagues, and other people who comes into the circle of social interaction, relatives are also part of it; they are also living under the same socially accepted norms. What is Nature Poem / Nature Poetry

What is Nature Poem / Nature Poetry Nature poem or poetry is an expression of composing poetry that centers principally on anything related to nature, for example; emotions, images, ideas, and a lot of natural concepts. Both poems and poetry are written matters, which is also a form of writing. However, you can't consider a writer as an poet. One needs rhyme and meter to write the appropriate pattern of poetry or a poem. The nature poetry or nature poem is not restricted to the rhyme or meter; Figurative terminology and exclusive kinds of styles can also be accepted gracefully. I am a writer and I don’t know how to write nature poem. However, I can describe what are nature poem/ natural poetry. So as mentioned above, content writing and poem writing are different subjects. Therefore, not every writer can write poetry. Haiku is the most common as well as a typical kind of nature poetry. Haiku poems are usually short and they normally favor natural elements; weather, seas

Theories of development: Modernization theory and dependency theory

Theories of development: Modernization theory and dependency There are many development theories; however, we often compare them like "modernization vs dependency theory" instead of understanding them. If we could understand the basic concept of both of these main theories of development, we'll be able to end the skepticism, and likewise compare as well as differentiate them. Let's understand the concept of modernization and dependency. Modernization Theory © Akhil Sharma   | AnythingRelated.com   | All Rights Reserved Modernization Theory Modernization theory is a great concept covering a lot of different exercises to describe and explain how our society develops, what factors affect that development or progress, and how people and cultures can respond to this advancement. Advancement is directly proportional to progress, and progress brings social manner as well as technological accomplishments into a new age. Basically, this theory describes the proce
